Sunday wrap up
Greg and I slept in and then had a lazy morning, Greg watching cartoons, me browsing through the Sunday ads and the paper. We had waffles for breakfast and more cartoons and some web surfing for me. Finally got dressed around 10 and headed outside to do some yard work. I fixed the hose, watered the plants, did some weeding and Greg helped me transplant the ficus tree. Awhile ago we got a much larger pot for it. This tree is probably 20 years old. It's life began in the Valley and wherever I have moved, it has moved with me in the same pot. It got blown over several times this year by the winds so we just left it down for a few weeks. Now the poor thing is brown from frost bite. But, there is hope as I saw new signs of life today as it got a new pot. New green leaves growing.
Greg was building a wood bird feeder he found in the garage while I was going through boxes and condensing them in the garage. Only a few more boxes of ebay items to list and I hope to get to those tonight. Got the garage cleaned up and then dashed to lunch. We went to the Corner Bakery and met my mom, Eric, Chrissy and the kids and Chrissy's parents, Ed and Deni. After lunch we saw some cute puppies in the pet store. No, not for us.
The highlight of the day was the Blue and Gold Boy Scouts Awards dinner. What a crowd! All boys from troop 818 at school. Greg is a Wolf and Tom is the Den leader. The boys received their awards and are on their way to becoming Bears. All the Wolf scouts did their wolf howl and ran around the hall howling. I guess this is a rite of passage to the next level:) I tried my best to get pix of Greg but he told me that I have taken enough pictures of him. I guess he is right.
Here's the Wolf Den: Tom and Bill, Christopher, Anthony, Wyatt, Lorenzo, Greg and Jimmy.
Look out! Wild Wolves on the loose! Greg's in there somewhere.
Evelyn was so tired from the weekend in Big Bear. She was glad to see 2 of her friends at the dinner, Paige and Nicole.

Back home and into pj's and the kids watched Saddle Club and then we watched the Amazing Race All Stars. Don't have a favorite team yet, but do know who is not my favorite.
No school tomorrow but I do have to work. Will work all morning and then do something after lunch. Not sure what yet. Maybe Dana Point if it is nice, or maybe Jumpin' Jammin' to wear out the kids, and I can read a book.
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Scrapbook Expo Saturday
Greg spent the night last night with Grandma Shirley. He spent the day with Grandma helping her around the house, doing errands and he also got to go the Chuckee Cheese with his cousin Jake and then play lots of games with Grandma. Greg and I made it to church at 5 and Greg was so excited to see his cousin Miles. Miles goes to San Diego State and is back at home this weekend to help move his sister Nicole back home. We also saw Sam who sprained her ankle doing the long jump in PE. Poor girl is even on crutches :(
We had a great spaghetti dinner and sat with our friends the Straus's. Hope Erin and baby Joey feel better soon!
Now we are home for the night and ready to watch a movie and get some much needed sleep. Tomorrow Evy and Tom come home and then we have the Blue and Gold Boy Scout award dinner in the afternoon. I will also post links to all the great stuff I saw at the Expo.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Getting ready for the weekend....TGIF
Getting ready for another busy weekend here at Murphyville. Tom and Evelyn are heading to Camp Whittle in Big Bear for another Adventure Princess outing. They come home on Sunday.
Greg and I are going to my moms for dinner tonight. Saturday morning I am up and out of the house early to meet Michele. We are heading to the Scrap Expo in Costa Mesa to promote our Crops2Remember and meeting up with Jessica and Nan in the Bind it All booth.
Saturday night Greg and I will go to church at 5 and then a fundraiser dinner at church. After that it's home to relax and watch movies. On Saturday while I am gone, Greg will hang out with Grandma Shirley, help her out with a few things. Then he gets a trip to Chuck E Cheese with his cousin Jake.
On Sunday, we get to (hopefully) sleep in. Then its time to do some yard work and get some things listed on eBay (hopefully). At 3 we have the Blue and Gold Awards dinner for Boy Scouts. Greg is a Wolf scout. He and the rest of the Den will get their awards and we will have a yummy Wood Ranch dinner.
Sunday night is home to relax and watch the Amazing Race. I get everything ready for school early so Sunday can be a relaxing night for everyone. I know Evy will be tired from the weekend.
No baseball practice tonight or Saturday as the coach is out of town. Nice to have a little break.
We got the schedules and Opening Day is March 3. Stay tuned for Padres updates!
I am patiently waiting for my laptop to regain connection so I can work. Called the Help Desk and it is a "known issue that is being worked on". So in the meantime, guess I'll finish putting away laundry and make sure Evy is all packed for her weekend.
Have a nice weekend everyone.

Real Simple Daily Thoughts
Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.
— Mark Twain
I love Real Simple magazine. Simple to read, great ideas, good recipes. (Good TV show too).
I subscribed to the Daily Thoughts. (http://www.realsimple.com/) This is a great daily thought. I love being with friends (and family) love to read and really need to get more sleep!
Just finished "The Nanny Diaries" by Nicola Kraus & Emma McLaughlin. A good quick read after "Gone With the Wind". This book is written by 2 former nannies and is a work of fiction. Described as a modern day Mary Poppins story - with attitude.

TGIF!!
Wednesday I took a crochet class at JoAnn's. My grandma Claire taught me to crochet when I was young. I remember having long crochet chains. I would also make crochet rag rugs with my grandma Evelyn. But I wanted to learn again. I am making a purse. It is a bit lopsided at this time, but I am no where near done. Yep, will post a pic when I am done. I have 2 weeks until the next class so have to finish up.
Evelyn had a Girl Scout meeting today after school. Greg had his buddy Erik over. The kids got out at noon today so they had all afternoon to play. They made a spy fort (shhh, no one is to know), took apart toy dart guns (from the 99 cent store) played Chicken Invaders and just goofed around like they always do. Those too are almost made from the same mold! They were on the same soccer team and are in the same class at school.
Greg had baseball practice tonight and the Boy Scouts with Tom. While the boys were scouting, Evy and I had dinner at Denny's (I was hungry for French Toast and eggs), made a trip to Old Navy for jeans and then to WalMart to browse. Got some good deals on clearance. And we actually found a winter hat for the next Big Bear trip. Go figure, bathing suits in January and hardly a winter hat to be found!!
We have a lot going on this weekend too. Maybe it will rain :) Greg has his first Reconciliation at church (in preparation for his First Communion), and then baseball practice. Evy has her crochet class and then goes to Marissa's for a birthday sleepover (like the girls really sleep!!). Sunday Greg and I are going on a Mom/Son bowling outing through school. It's a lot of fun. When that is done, I am putting my feet up and reading, or crocheting.
I started a new book, "The Nanny Diaries". Light reading compared to "Gone with the Wind". I am already half done. Got a lot read today at practice. (bundled up in a sweater, sweatshirt and a blanket~~gets so cold out there)
Well, I am rambling on so had better stop. You can take a look at my blog, http://www.naomisnotables.blogspot.com/ for my scrapbooking venture C2R. I will explain more in another post. Good night and have a wonderful weekend!!

I finished Gone with the Wind
I am in this wonderful book club at the kids school. "Gone with the Wind" was our selection for January, giving us 2 months to read it. Last year it was "East of Eden".
We meet once a month to discuss the current month's book. This month is "The Nanny Diaries". I already have it and will start reading in a few days. Want to read a couple magazines first. Then hopefully I will be able to finish up "Widow of the South" before I have to start reading for March.
Future selections are "The Memory Keepers Daughter"," Princess" and "Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time".
Some favorite past reads are "Kaffir Boy", "They other Boleyn Girl", "Glass Castle", "My Sisters Keeper", "The Kite Runner" and "Molokai"
My book shelves are packed again. I keep buying up more books on ebay, Amazon and Borders.
My friend Julie told me about a great site for trading books: http://www.bookcrossing.com. Check it out, its pretty cool.
Happy reading :)

Annie

Evelyn and I went to see Annie at the Performing Arts Center on Sunday. bought the tickets on line Friday night and we still got great seats. We headed over after church and got to the Performing Arts Center around 12:15. Showtime was 1:00. Got our tickets from Will Call and headed on in. We got a snack and then found our seats. The show was awesome! Evelyn was singing the songs the rest of the day. And of course, I was singing along with her.

After the show, we went to Mimi's for and early dinner (about 4:15) Since it was Super Bowl Sunday, the place was empty. There were maybe 4 tables with customers. After dinner we headed to Target to stock up on snacks and stuff for the week.
The boys were still at a Super Bowl party so Evy and I got into our pj's early and watched The Princess Bride.
It was a great Evelyn and Me day. And just remember, You're never fully dresses without a smile :)

Rain, rain, please stay and don't go away.
Kids have out grown their rain coats and boots. So, better make a trip to the store to get more. If there are any. Can't believe bathing suits are out and it is only January!
Our back yard floods when it rains a lot. We get a huge puddle outside the kitchen. We always joke that we could float a boat on the puddle it is that big and deep.
A few years ago the kids were out back playing and having such a great time in that puddle. Then I hear "Look at us!!!". The boogie boards were dragged out of the shed and the kids would start on one side of the yard, run across the yard and dive onto the boogie boards and go flying across the puddle. They had a blast. Then it was time for hot chocolate in front of the warm fire. I figure that if we lived in the snow, the kids would be out playing in the snow. So why not get soaking wet and have a great time playing in the rain.
