Well, we made it. Last day of school Friday! Whew. And what long summer we will have too. Don't go back till Sept. 17. We will have to take drives by the school this summer to check on the progress over there.
The kids brought home loaded backpacks today. It's all dumped on the couch to sort through. Yikes. Work books, tons of papers, reading books that I thought were good and lost. Now if Greg can just find that new sweatshirt he left on the field on Tuesday , we will be in good shape.
More desk cleaning out tomorrow. Wonder what else will find it's way home.

Blue Moon 5-31-07
A friend of mine sent this to me in an email...... check it out
May 31st marks the first blue moon since 2004.
The next won't occur until December 2009.
So for everyone who only do things once in a blue moon, now’s the time.
Click on the link below to learn more about the "BlueMoon”
http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/astronomy/BlueMoon.html
Here's what it says:
When two full moons occur in any calendar month, the second is called a blue moon. The term (in its modern usage) therefore has nothing to do with the Moon's actually color. A blue moon occurs about once in 2.5 years on average. A blue moon can occur in January and the following March if there is no full moon at all in February, as is the case in the years 1999, 2018, and 2037.
There are several other meanings ascribed to the term "blue moon" (the most common being "a very uncommon event"), but the one given here seems first to have appeared in The Maine Farmers' Almanac of 1937. The phrase "blue moon" has been around for several hundred years, but its meaning has changed a few times. The earliest use of "blue moon" meant an obvious absurdity which everyone knew never happened. However, the moon does occasionally turn blue as a result of smoke from forest fires or particles from a volcanic eruption. Since these blue-looking moons were rare but did happen from time to time, the phrase "once in a blue moon" was coined, meaning that an event is unusual, but can happen occasionally (Kibbey). "Blue moon" has also been used as a symbol of sadness and loneliness. That appears to have a history of its own among musicians and songwriters (Kibbey).
The following table lists all blue moons from 1990 to 2010 for dates in universal time. Note that because the full moon occurs at different times (and therefore potentially on different calendar days and in different calendar months) in different time zones, the occurrence of blue moons is time zone (and daylight saving time) dependent. For example, a blue moon occurs on May 31, 2007 in the Eastern Daylight Time zone, but on June 30, 2007 in universal time. Blue moons cannot occur in February, since the Moon's synodic period is 29.531 days, but February is 29 days at its longest (during a leap year).

Count down to last day of school, continued
Well, we made it through another day...... Now only 2 more to go. Whew! Evelyn has a religion test tomorrow, but no other homework. Greg again had no homework. I asked the kids what they wanted to do Friday after school and they both said "nothing". Do you want to invite friends over? "No". Ok, fine with me. Greg has practice Friday night anyways. And I have to go through the stuff in the garage for the neighborhood garage sale Saturday morning.
While Greg was at practice, Evy and I did our Target run and then washed my car. It's been awhile. I washed it because it is now that time of the year to decorate our car windows for the baseball tournament of champions (TOC). We got her nice and clean and then Greg, Evy and I decorated the windows. I took pix but don't feel like heading out to the garage, where I left my camera, to get it at the moment.
First TOC game Saturday at 1:00. Come on down and root for the Padres! Guaranteed to be an awesome game. We got the TOC schedule at practice tonight. I will sort it out and stick it on the blog for those interested. The game dates all depend on if we win or loose.
Enjoy the rest of your week :) Did you have a happy ending to your day today? I did and strive to every day.

Count down to last day of school
4 more days of school, well, make that 3, now that the school day is actually over. Greg announced "no homework this week!" Ok, I sure can deal with that! Evelyn had only one math page. Whew!
Greg woke up this morning complaining that he was sick and had to stay home. No way, the only way he is staying home is if he has a temp higher than 99. Stick it out buddy, you are almost there!
Evelyn got in the car after school announcing she has a headache. Ok, drink lots of water and to bed early. But not staying home from school.
Since we didn't have any homework (notice I say WE), I took the kids to the RSM library. We all got our library cards and the kids browsed the book section. The kids start KUMON next week and Evy needed to get 5 books. Greg picked out his stack of 5 too. We even got 3 movies for a buck in the used book store :)
So, what's going on the rest of the week? Who knows.... day by day. Don't know when the baseball tournament starts yet or even what the schedule it. Don't know if we have practice this week. Nice to have some time off.
3 more days to go, let's see if Greg can make it without trying to stay home sick and Evy can come home from school without a headache. :)
Ok, so I really didn't have much to write about, but just killing time before I get back to work so thought I would write something. Also just trying to sort some things out and needed some time to sit and think, and I can do that when I type and ramble on. Try it :)
Happy Tuesday :)

Memorial Day weekend
Ahh, just knowing there is a long weekend ahead is wonderful :) We don't normally go away over the weekend, just stay home and hang out. And that's exactly what we did this weekend.
Saturday, the kids played with the neighbors, all day, back and forth between houses. We cleaned out the garage and ended up finding lots of stuff to stick out in the neighborhood garage sale next Saturday. Evelyn even cleaned out some things in here room to contribute. I also got my potting bench :) Had to assemble it myself (but I love to build things). Have it all set up and ready to go. Now just need to do some planting and gardening.
Sunday we had our friends the Stauss' over for a bbq. We made london broil, bbq corn on the cob, baked beans and a new pasta salad I found. The Strauss' brought a yummy apricot crisp and home made ice cream :) Yumm-O! The kids so much fun playing and Aiden even stayed over night.
Monday was a day to sleep in . I took K on a nice long run in the morning. And then for the most of the day just hung out. Nothing to do.....so nice. I chatted with the neighbors, drug out my scrap stuff to organize my pictures, went to the store..... Evy went to Dana Point to go surfing with her friend Sara. I took Greg and Aiden, and K, down into the glenn to hunt for tad poles. Didn't find many, but lots of algae, and dirty shoes. Even K got into the mud and came home caked. (She got a bath and was a little miffed with me for awhile). When Evy got back from the beach, we dashed to Tara's house so Tara, Marissa, Maria and Evy could work on their social studies project, How the Railroad was born. They have to present it to the class.
Then the big event of the weekend, The kids and I saw Shrek. Funny movie!!! We saw Jacquie and her kids there too. Did you like the movie??
Well, 7:30 now. Wonder how the Ducks are doing? Time to get ready for school tomorrow and get the kids in bed. They are tired. Only 4 more days of school left this school year. The school is shutting down early to start the summer construction.
So, hope you all had a nice Memorial Weekend. Let's not forget the real meaning of Memorial Day.... it's what keeps our wonderful Country the Land of the Free. Take a few minutes to remember all our soldiers and those who protect our Country and those who have in the past.
God Bless America!!

Kaydee
First, just a little background on our dog K (short for Kaydee). The kids had been wanting a dog, me too. We had been looking all over www.petfinder.com and found some cute dogs. We finally convinced Tom that we needed a dog. I wanted a dog that was a little older so we didn't have to go through the puppy training. We found a dog on http://www.greatpets.org/ which is New Beginnings for Animals. We met the first dog but he didn't take to the kids so we were introduced to Kaydee. It was mutual love at first sight. She was all over the kids licking them and running around with them.
Fast forward to 2 years later and K is definitely our dog and knows this is her home. She is very possessive - her yard, her gate, her kids, her family, her house. She is so sweet and well mannered and good with the kids, but is the Alpha Female with other dogs. I don't know all her past but know that she was in a shelter in San Diego before she was rescued by New Beginnings. She was with them for more than 6 months until we found her. So, being the foster child, I know she is glad to have a home and family of her own. She is lacking those early doggie social skills but we know what we need to work on.
So, what I am getting at is that K by nature is a hunter - gopher, possum and of course poor Cracker. She still noses around the birds and has to be outside if they are out of the cage. And now with Mr. Whiskers, poor dog. Whiskers house just happened to be on the end table by K's couch. Mr. Whiskers likes to stick his nose through the bars of his house and did so as K was laying on her couch right next to him. K doesn't really know what to think with the addition of a new furry animal in the house. She is very curious and could get a taste of Whiskers in one mouthful.
Here is Kaydee getting up close and personal with Mr. Whiskers. Greg says he is probably thinking "What the heck is that big black thing that likes to stare at me?"

Oh, did I mention, that Greg bought Mr. Whiskers all by himself, saving his money for a hamster. So, now our family zoo consists of a dog, 2 birds, hermit crab, 4 fish and a hamster. That's it! No rabbits, snakes, guinnie pigs, nada.............

Leisure: A fancy word for people who don't want to admit they're bored.
— Gene Perret
Like who has time to be bored? No me. But I do take time to sit and read or curl up on the couch and watch a movie or TV show. Last weekend I watched, in bits and pieces, The Freedom Writers. Heard mixed reviews about the book and the movie but I thought it was a great movie and do recommend it! Love to hang out with the kids too and play games.
Have a great day!!

Greg's class
Some of the boys
Aaron, Greg, Mark, Erik, Sean, Charlie

My blog is running out of pictures. Too many words. The kids school has a special mass for the the kids in 2nd grade after their first communion. The 2nd graders get to wear their first communion clothes to school. After mass they change into normal clothes and have a pizza and ice cream party.
Here's Greg with some of his buds in his class :)

This one is a good one to remember every day.
Remember to book by Jamie Lee Curtis, Today I feel Silly..... (I think that's the title). Well today I feel cranky and tired. Yep. I stayed up late to try to get some work done. Still trying to catch up after my computer crashed. Then when I did get to bed, it was one thing after another that woke me up - dog, kids, Tom snoring, and the cute little Whiskers. He decided to get on the wheel and do his marathon. Holy smokes! I closed Greg's door but it still woke me up, and the kids. Finally little cute Mr. Whiskers was banished to the garage (covered with a towel to keep him warm). Ahhh, sleep. Then buzzzzz went the alarm. No Mom, I don't want to get up to go to school today :(
Well, I am going to make the most of it today and not let this get me down. I don't like to dwell on the negative, so making this a good day, a day with purpose. Let's see what it is today :)

Padres 14, Rangers 11
Ok, so it was drizzling most of the day today, the game still went forward. The field was wet and muddy (22 very muddy boys at the end of the game). The game drew quite a crowd. You see, this was our last season game and we were playing the Rangers, tied for 1st with the Cardinals. We were fired up and ready to go - parents included as we were armed with our noise makers. The first inning was tied 1-1. The rest of the game was up and down. We were tied 10 - 10 going into the 6th inning. Padres had to be strong hitters as the Rangers had the last at bat. Our guys were running like there was fire in their shoes! Padres pulled ahead 14 - 10. Rangers were up, starting with their last batter and then to the top of their line up. We got them in 5 batters with the Rangers scoring 1 the last inning to make the final score 14 - 11. Wow!!
The Cardinals coaches were on hand to watch the game as well as many other players from other teams. So cool!
The TOC starts around June 8, don't have a set date yet. But will be sure to post the games as we find out when we play. Last year went quick, playing about every other day or every 3rd day, depending on how we did - win or loose.
So a few weeks off but need to stay focused on the game. Practice, practice, practice.
Go Padres!!

What a game!!
Padres update......
Thursday Padres played the A's and won. All the boys were in great spirits and ready to take on the Cardinals Saturday. What a game that was! Padres were on fire!! We made the Cardinals work hard for their win. 22 - 18. Greg hit a ball to the fence and it bounced over the fence. Not a home run, but a ground rule double. Greg also had great plays at 3rd even a double play. Tagged out the runner going to third and ripped it over to first base to get the runner to first out!!
Tonight we play the last regular season game against the Rangers. Let's hope the fields are dry enough from the rain we had last night. The TOC starts sometime after Memorial weekend.
Evelyn and Tom had so much fun camping. It was a pirate weekend with water wars, hiking, skits and girls being girls. She came home tired, as usual. Next camping trip is in June and is the end of year family camp in Mission Bay.
Greg and I had fun hanging out. We watched cartoons and slept late. Greg had his heart set on spending his money on a hamster. So after pricing all the stuff we needed, he ended up getting Whiskers, a cute little grey and white hamster. Very friendly too. Just one more thing to torment the poor dog with. No pictures to post though.
Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.
